2/19/2011 - Portable Processing Center (PPC) Debuts at Daytona
Increased recycled material recovery and reduced landfill costs are two of the many benefits derived from Coca-Cola Recycling’s newly introduced Portable Processing Center (PPC).
As a result of our on-going collaboration with NASCAR and affiliated racetracks, more used beverage containers are being recycled at races than ever before. The PPC was developed by Coca-Cola Recycling to fill the need for a cost-effective/efficient system for processing those containers. It provides an automated system that separates and crushes aluminum cans and PET plastic bottles and discards any trash that is mixed in with the containers. PPC’s processing of the recovered material takes place behind the scenes, usually after the event, coinciding with clean-up and trash collection.
The Portable Processing Center uses the same technology as a standard Material Recovery Facility (MRF) but is mounted on a tractor/trailer so that it can travel from event to event.
Daytona International Speedway hosted the inaugural debut of the new PPC unit last weekend at the Daytona 500. More than 8,500 pounds of used beverage containers were recycled at this event. Look for the PPC at other NASCAR races and major events throughout 2011.
